Slice of The Cake
Red Light Memories (1984/5)

Opposite Enmore Theatre is a row of shops looking on
Once upon a time they were homes to some dysfunctional families
And plenty of malfunctional men
Mum and I rented a small room above Lily's Salon
Women buffered the impact like flowers between sharp flint
But the furries upstairs in the forest next door would do beastly things
A drag queen at the end of the hall was a depressed chain smoker
Set the place on fire on more than one ocassion
On the corner was a hotel
I don't know how the owner lived with himself
Raising his family in there
Son began a little gang cause he had the capital
I'd do anything for food
Things a child at six ought not do
But the Bible says "skill brings a man before kings"
It didn't specify
Put me in good steed for what was to follow
