Poem -

Slowly, Someday

I put on my headphones and walk to the bus stop
Sara Bareilles sings about heartbreak in my ears
But I feel nothing

You get into your car 200 miles away
And turn on the windshield wipers and the radio
To drown out the silence

I'm not thinking of falling asleep against your chest
Or the weight of your hips on mine
I'm not thinking anything at all

You're not thinking of the stars over the lake
Or the taste of my lips on our third anniversary
You aren't thinking anything at all

I'm not angry
Or happy

You're not sad
Or content

We are swimming toward the surface of normal
Light dancing above, waiting for us to find land
Slowly
Someday
We may feel the sun again
