The Smell of Life

Life smells good today
it smells real
like earth and wind and spirit
What does spirit smell like?
Like hope.

A warmth beneath the cold.
A knowledge that
although my fingerprints are snow
and my hair hangs in icicles,
I have warm, loving blood
that screams I. AM. ALIVE.

This is what I feel as I pace to class,
step over sidewalk cracks as I do,
mouth songs to myself and
hug the sky

as the rest of the world
rushes by, unaware of
the smell of life.
