Sober Truths

I drink to remember

the lingering scent

of alcoholĀ 

on his breath

because that isĀ 

the first

and last smell

that lingeredĀ 

through my nose

beforeĀ 

and after

he told meĀ 

he loved meĀ 

and drunken thoughts

are sober truths.
