Society

She grew up looking at
the girls in magazines
To look exactly like them
was every little girls dream
They were all so beautiful
so different from what the mirror would let her see
It was then that she decided
to try for society's idea of beauty
she studied all their pictures
just trying to fit in
But all of them were perfect
and all of them were thin
It was then that she stopped eating
and quit the sweet drinks too
She didn't plan to stop
until her ribs were showing through
Their faces were so clear
not a single flaw to see
She caked her face in make up and asked
"Am I beautiful society?"
It's been a few years since
she started trying to fit in
She may be a size zero
but her eyes are oh so grim
Those magazines are quite the crooks
they stole her happiness
They replaced it by worry about her looks
and not what lies within
