Had you waited child
I would have led the way through
In the sweet scented way that
such old ladies do...with
Crinkly footsteps and soft swishing
skirts,
I might have scented the darkness
I could have warmed up the dirt
Had you waited a little, I would then
have been first
I should have been first
To fill the brown earth
To ask god's forgiveness
To make our family known
