SOLDIER BOY TELLS ME

Soldier boy tells me he's been to hell and backĀ
Constant gunfire he hears and under attackĀ
Comrades dying he says are dying all aroundĀ
The death rattle he informs a frightening sound

Soldier boy tells me he misses his boy of fiveĀ
Each day praying that's he's thankful to be alive
A chain around his neck given by his wifeĀ
Considers it more precious than his lifeĀ

Soldier boy tells me of the time he enrolledĀ
A December morning both frosty and coldĀ
Promised warm blue skies in a land far away
He was mislead big time he went onto sayĀ

Soldier boy tells me of the letters he's receivedĀ
Tears from his mother that's what he's perceivedĀ
I leave soldier boy he's such a crumpled messĀ Ā
Certainly not difficult to analyse and assessĀ
