SOLDIERS REFLECTIONS

SOLDIERS REFLECTIONS

It was on a cold and wet September's day
He received a letter saying he would be going away
This young man was about eighteen or so
Would join his comrades to fight the common foe

The day arrived his mother was crying
There would be bloodshed, killing and dying
Why should this happen to men young and raw ?
All this in the name of freedom and war

There but for the grace of God go I
An appropriate saying as I don't want to die
For I will be eighteen during September 1943
These tragic events may well happen to me
