some wars, some carols and... shoes,

This year I mourne it
Fake black tree
Tinsel
as dull as the rings on Uranus
and,
As decidedly unloved.
Who killed Christmas
little Freddie asks
as he munches through mince
pies... innocent eyed...
Bulk bought by the baker
last June or July
Will santa still come if I sleep at
Aunt Jo's?
Cos my mum has to work and so
how will he know?
Indeed I say,
as we stare at the news
some wars and some carols
some adverts for shoes...
To be bought at a superstore
Right Near You...
Oh, and dont worry folks,
Open Christmas Day too!!

Brilliant Marion! Christmas sure is a double edge sword for those who have to work.
-Syd xo
Yea...everybody should be off for Christams Syd except for the most essential workers ...thankyou ...hugs x
Hi Marion,
It seems that everything is 24-7 . I spent Christmas in Ireland about 20yrs ago like!! only to find things very different...even pubs were closed on Christmas and boxing day which hasn't happened here in such a long time...its not a break anymore
I enjoyed
Lorna xx
Absolutely...I remember when pubs were only open till 2pm on Xmas day...never on a Xmas night and everything bar the most essential services were closed or skeleton crewed for 2 whole weeks. Christmas was a complete escape from normal life and people had time to visit and party and actually spend time with their kids. I don't know when we became a 'live to work' and nothing else society Lorna but the magic has definitely been killed. Thankyou...hugs x
Hello Marion...
People question the timing of Christmas...
Some people say Jesus was born in the Spring, or in the Summer...
Christmas was a lot different...
I was younger though...
It was nice to say and be able to hear Merry Christmas, Christmas Vacation and Happy Hanukkah...
A lot of changes can come with the Domino Effect...
We have choices everyday...
Are we aiming higher or staying on the ground with everyone else?
That's an individual thing?
I have walked out of Stores...
If the feeling isn't right or I over hear something that tells me this isn't for me...
Chinese Restaurants are open here on Christmas Day...
I've never checked to see if they're closed on Chinese New Year...
Some people don't feel Christmas...
Some despise it...
Some only see money and a shopping spree of their own inside their brain...
Christmas has a whole lot of Christ in it...
If it was up to my Dad I probably wouldn't have been allowed to say it at all...
I don't see why the Anti-Christmas people shouldn't work?
Do something...
They should not have to have time off...
I didn't Celebrate their Holidays...
Let me work...
Chances are I'd be on the schedule...
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...

I always love reading your unique take and views on life sparrowsong...how are you? Thankyou my friend x
When myself and my brothers were young, my dad had to work all the time to make ends meet, he had to work Christmas day and I hated it, I hate the system that breaks up family's, the wheel that never stops, he worked two jobs just to put food on our table and my mam would cry all the time.
Your poetry really hits hard Marion.
Thanks for sharing x
Exactly...everything used to be shut for 2 weeks not so long back, only essentials were open like hospitals...now everybody has to work over Xmas when there really is no need, family time has become a luxury and work work work the norm, I hate it too...we are slaves to systems and societies that value all the wrong things Gerard. Thanks so much my friend x
Yup, today’s world is a mix of many cross currents. For me, having gone through my own share of trials and tribulations and at 71 still feel the warmth of the fireplace, glow of the lights and joy of the wonderful music.
Great write Marion.

It's sad that Christmas is being eroded by irrelevant shops being open 24/7 which means everybody has to work and family time is now a luxury...thanks John...enjoy your Christmas my friend x
