SORRY I KILLED YOUR DADDY

I went to war at the age of 22
Not sure of what I was going to doÂ
Kill or be killed my sergeant saidÂ
And I didn't want to end up by being deadÂ
Sorry I killed your daddyÂ
My 23rd birthday and I was given a gunÂ
Kill the enemy or be killed my sonÂ
So I was left with no choice but to killÂ
As my fellow comrades and I went over that hillÂ
Sorry I killed your daddy
Your daddy was in the same position as me I'm sureÂ
Not a pleasant way to die at the age of 24
Little child please don't weep
As you settle off to sleepÂ
Sorry I killed your daddy

Hello Kieran...
Truth and pain with an apology...
There's a line between wanting to fight or having to fight...
Sometimes, we have no choice...
Great touching write!
Thank you for sharing...
Hugs...

Thanks for writing this, I really enjoyed it and the way you express with simple but effective words. Respect Lamp
This is so sad. I will remember this when I go into the military.
This gave me the chills. It flows so well and the repetition of the last line of each stanza packs a punch. It made me feel sad...for both people because it is kill or be killed and no one wants to die like that...or kill someones family but it's them or us...truly amazing write...pinned and all stars :)

Hi Lily
Many thanks for your kind comment and words ....don't you find these flashes of inspiration come at the most unexpected and inconvenient time !? This happened when I was on the bus to work !
All the best with your stuffÂ
