Spare a Thought

I heard ladies complaining when breaking a nail,
I heard men complaining when their children "fail",
She should have come first, second place is no good!
Clearly they're thinking not as they should?
We hear of great "educated" nations fighting for oil!
Whilst wasted food that could be used is left to spoil.
We watch soap operas and play silly mind games!
Do we ever look into ourselves and feel any shame?
We purchase raw meat straight from the shelves,
Continuously thinking............only of ourselves.
Never stopping to question, was there any pain?
Whilst we stuff our faces with flesh time and again.
We plod along through life, our blinkers shut tight.
Deep in our hearts we hide from our very own plight.
We buy massive vehicles for traveling for one,
never stopping to question "What have I done"?
We believe our "soul" purpose is for financial gain,
and then in our children these values we train.
No thought for our neighbour, disregards for one another,
No thought in a past life, this man was my brother!
No consequence for wrong doings, until it's too late,
And this though unfortunate, will determine our fate.
We wish for recognition and demand anothers' love,
Are we this shallow? "Good heavens above"?
We nourish our egos and bloat our own minds,
Without stopping to realise, it's better to be kind.
Karma is right there for each of us to observe,
Yet time and again, it's ourselves that we serve.
We swear in the traffic and demand to be heard,
Our vision and direction are "clearly" blurred.
So next time you're feeling sad and alone.
Look at this image, it'll set a new tone.
A young girl in a wheelchair, her arm deformed.
When asked for a photo - she happily conformed.
There she sat sweetly no complaint yet so fragile.
And it took her one second for this precious smile.
