Speedy

Speedy

He darted to and fro
always on the go
a human dynamo

His friends called him speedy
his foes called him greedy
women found him needy

he wouldn't abide laziness
and punished tardiness
his mouth and limbs restless

He didn't suffer fools gladly
pursued talent madly
tutted at me sadly

For my slovenly ways
he had no praise
I never ceased to amaze

but when you were in favour
his comments you would savour
improved your behaviour

He's gone to a better place
where I hope he's found a more relaxed pace
and picture a slow smile on his face
