DAMN IT MAN

When did you become
such a bland stereotype?

A thoroughly boring hologram
who once was
a solid individual
brimming with personal creativity
before the forces of conformity
held you to it's bosom
and enlisted your suckling ass
into it's ravenous litter

How do I always seem
find myself
in the wrong place
with a bad crowd
of reprobates
always on the make
as they take
more than I have to give?

Not gonna be
your singing monkey anymore

Now I gotta deal with liberation
and all the angst freedom brings

Got me a half ton
of your fuckin carcass
crushing my chest
soon to be caved in
by the weight of excess
toxic expectations

I guess
our thing ain't ever
gonna be the same
like back in the day
when we were weightless

Tangled ribbons
don't always tie together
as neatly as we need
to help us get through
this disjointed existence
but onward we proceed
as best muddled us
can work around the knots
that attach themselves
to our all too brief journey
