Standing on His Watchtower

Hypnotic riffs, grooving my soul.

It was like Coltrane on strings.

Jimi’s guitar functioned like an extra body part.

It was as if it had nerves.

A wave of rock, rhythm, and blues.

He had that way of moving people

But like many virtuosos Jimi didn’t stay long.

Victimized by accesses: sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll.

But Jimi packed a lot in 27 years.

He left us with a rich, musical legacy.

A catalog that lives on forever.

Hey Joe and Purple Haze and an

unforgettable Star Spangled Banner.

And as I stand listening to All Along the Watchtower.

I shout, “Play it Jimi! Play it! Play that DAMN guitar!”
