STANLEY THE FARM GOAT

I remember as a child my visit to a farm
So much fun and animals full of charm
The animal I remember most and got my vote
Was charming Stanley the happy farm goat

I recall he was partial to a slice of bread
On that Sunday he had my apple instead
Almost gave me a smile as he chewed
Certainly very polite and certainly not rude

He looked at me then with pleading eyes
I pulled out some chocolate to his surprise
In a second the chocolate was quickly gone
Nothing left behind for his brother John

Stanley and I drifted the older I became
Only thought of now as just a name
It's upsetting part of my youth is left behind
Sad for my soul and also sad for my mind
