Poem -

Stepmother

I didn’t grow inside your belly
I grew inside your heart
You didn’t have to stick around
And play another’s part
But you did

I don’t call you mom
But you call me daughter
You didn’t have to stay
When things got harder
But you did

Sometimes I think you hate me
But your life you’ve always shared
You didn’t have to love me
You didn’t have to care
But you did

You didn’t have to be mom
To someone else’s child
But I am so glad
That you did

bind themselves to love
