Suffering In Silence

In tribute to those tackling mental illness,
.
The nature of the beast is to test you to extreme,
Changing you in ways you had never foreseen.
In presence of others you remain calm and assured
But the turmoil within is constantly being endured.
A battle rages where the outcome is too close to call.
How could this happen to the likes of you at all ?
Everything defining you was as it had always been,
Then from depths of nowhere came a silent scream.
Will you ever find a way back to what you understood ?
You would give absolutely anything if only you could !
Determined to hold out, living your worst nightmare,
The nature of the beast makes this hell so hard to share.

Hello Richard...
Great compassionate tribute...
Every person with a brain disorder is placed on medication and they are treated like a guinea pig or are placed in a facility...
Every person is different, but if they are given the wrong medicine, dosage, etc...
It reminds me of a person getting completely lost and there's noone there to ask for directions...
The professionals see so many people a day...
They leave it up to the patient to tell them what's going on...
How do they explain if they don't understand themselves?
If there is anyone close to the individual that can describe it...
I wonder if that would bring more light into the meeting...
They may still have to try different meds, but they should do a scan and see if there is something missing, or just out of sorts...
Someone with expertise should read the results...
Instead of just conversation and making their own determination from a text book...
Some people suffer with depression due to a hormonal imbalance...
There is so many different types...
Misdiagnosis can be detrimental to an individual...
Some is self inflicted...
Bad drugs, etc...
Some is hereditary...
Some is simply caused by something out of sync...
Someone could have slight brain damage from a bump on the head that was forgotten about and overlooked...
The list goes on and on...
The world can be so cold and lonely as it is...
To have to deal with something like that alone...
They're actually the strong and intelligent ones...
The courage it takes to walk in a place to talk to a stranger...
Does anyone even think about the anxiety they must be going through at the same time?
I apologize for such a lengthy comment, but there is such diversity with this subject...
That one doesn't fit most...
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...

You make significant points on mental issues and the treatment of them.
Thank you for such an important contribution supporting my piece which can only help to lessen the stigma of having mental concerns. Health matters of this category need responses that show care and sympathy.

Thank you for your kind words ! :)
Hey Richard. It is hard to fathom someone who suffers from a mental illness because you yourself cannot relate to what they are dealing with or going through. My brother suffers from a mental illness and it takes a lot of patience and it is difficult to bare when you are doing well and striving in life while this person you care for struggles to cope within society. Nicely written my friend.
With your experiences of being around mental illness I am pleased you felt my write took the right approach.
Thanks for commenting.
All the best to you ! :)
