Summer

whats happened to our summer this years was tuesday it is said
i must of somehow missed it maybe i went early to my bed
fond memories of bygone times when they seemed to last forever
a day felt like a lifetime and did it rain no never
bumble bees a plenty buzzing buttercups on the lawn
bicycle rides in the country surrounded by fields and fields of corn
wispy clouds high up in blue skies hardly moving all day long
sunbathing in the garden in the company of sweet birdsong
swallows skimming on the river catching all the flies
dogs paddling near the bankside amid childrens joyous cries
carnivals and feats held in parks around the towns
smiles and jubilation replacing misery and frowns
ice cream vans on the corner people queueing up for miles
cats and dogs seeking refuge finding it on cool kitchen tiles
will that summer i remember ever come and stay a while
just a few weeks would be splendid and how it would make us smile
i fear i am dreaming yearning of something that is history
global warming and climate change both factors in the mystery
but hope springs eternal i am optimistic to the last
still dreaming of those golden days hoping they are not in the past
