The Angel and the Devil

One day she touched the devil;
His red heat caught her eye;
His knowledge teased her wisdom;
Her heart so keen to fly.
She wondered "is there more to know
Than this love I feel inside?".
She yearned to step up higher;
She craved the final prize.
His heat it pounded down on her;
His presence ever warm;
His words they thumped straight through her heart,
And filled her with a calm.
"Behold fair child of light" he said,
"Blinded by your goal,
The dark was never meant for you.
Your love is from the soul".
"Turn back now dear child of light,
Your world is yours alone.
I bear your pain to keep the light
From darkening to my throne"
"The truth it lies within you.
There is nothing more to see.
I embrace your pain with love,
So that you don't follow me"
That day, the devil touched her;
That day she felt much bolder;
That day she spread her wings and flew
With the devil on her shoulder.
