Poem -

The asylum.

You built the asylum
And came willing to compose
To take me prisoner
( a single white rose )

you built each wall
And had me confined

Took control of my body
And commanded my mind

And I couldn't see
What you were doing

I didn't grasp the factors
At hand

Completely oblivious
To your loving Way's

You built the asylum
In so many ways

I trusted you, and clang to your word

The sweetest voice I had ever heard

You tied the shackles around my wrists, you placed my feet unmoving

You had me beg for your love, like something that needed proving

Until it all came to an end

Broken down, unable to bend

Shattered, fractures
Everything seeping out

Alone and afraid, to cry out

Abandoned prisoner
Full of self doubt

Unable to climb in, enable to climb out

You became my weakness
I became your strength

You built the asylum
The way it went

Taking away freedom
And what love ment

You built the asylum
The illness was you

Something destructive
Abusive, untrue

And I had to suffer
Because of you.

An abusive partner is the 2nd worst thing anyone can have. The 1st is being in so bad of a place that we let them abuse us for fear of being alone, but when we open our eyes we take that 1st step to healing, to freedom. I got out sometime ago and the scars feel so fresh, but its just a reminder of why I won't settle for anything less than the best. I hope you've gotten out and seek healing. Talking about what you've been through is the best way to move past it. Talk about it and it loses it's strength.
