The Best Of My Love

Before I met you, I thought I had loved, but eventually the unions would end;

The partners I chose, I thought were just right, would decide no more time need be spent!

Then came a divorce, or a heated goodbye, another one “right down the drain”;

I started to wonder if love was unreal, for in people, it always was feigned!

But then into my life, there entered a soul, that showed me it really was true;

That love did exist if you found the right mate, and for me, the right one was you!

I had given up hope, and was playing the game, that many, who’ve lost, then join in;

To stay with someone for a very short while, and part before feelings begin!

Then lo and behold, you changed all of that, and captured my runaway heart;

And it took you not months, but just a few days, I loved you right from the start!

I never had felt such joy and such bliss, that I had the first time we touched;

Bloods long frozen in my heart, then started to flow, and through my body did rush!

When I kissed your lips for the very first time, I felt the Earth move under my feet;

And then our two souls came out of their lairs, and with love did each other greet!

That was a very long time ago, when our destinies came down from above;

And now forever entwined, in each other’s arms, we share the “best of our love”!
