Poem -

THE BROKEN DAFFODIL

See him there
That one alone
Whose roots seek out the rocky stones
So sad a twisted broken thing
That birds above him fail to sing
And air around him cries

See him there
He turns away
From light and all things good
He huddles close against the wall
Head turned away from daylights call
He weeps to find the earth

See him there
In bowed bent form
He stands apart rejects the norm
And all the care in all the world
Shall never make him proud
Or tall
Or raise his head to sun

See him there
My soul is broke
To see such beauty wilt and choke
I whisper that he can survive
And bloom another year
That summer is not far way
That love will help him grow
Just stay
Just stay alive
And live

See him there
He has my heart
I break to see him so apart
Untethered to the world around
Seeking only darkened ground
Though nurtured with most loving care
His petals fall in deep despair
He dies before my eyes

See him there
My tears he spills
I yearn to help him grow and fill
To search for love and life to live
To know the gifts he has to give
But hollow words all drift away
I raise my hands to god and pray
To heal his soul and cure his ills
To save my broken daffodil
My lovely broken daffodil.
