The Butcher's Bill
The world has had enough
Of you and I
She has called our bluff
She's made sure that we'll die
We've invested in futures
That will never come
We've nursed our sutures
We've drunk ourselves numb
To the violent reprisal
That's well on its way
And until its arrival
We'll have nothing to say
About the scars that we've left her
The diseases we've birthed
Like ravenous bastards
Made to ravage the earth
And our causes stay futile
As we firm our resolve
To become even more servile
Until our remnants dissolve
But we hate that we'll vanish
And we loathe that we'll end
So we throw down our anchors
And believe we'll ascend
Above the poisons we leave here
And the crimes we commit
Against the things that we fear
Things we'll never admit
But these comforts we cling to
Will never suffice
Gaunt faces grow paler
The comfort's a vice.

Hey JAIME!! ~ I wrote on this very subject matter today as well......... just posted it an hour ago.......... synchronicity?.......... regardless, I took the exact same point of view.......... not surprising!! : ).........I Love the way you express your intent in short bursts of imagery.........a prose presentation of the planets scars and the damage done!!.......... and although we have committed a crime against Mother Nature all we do is pray that we are forgiven and will ascend by God's good grace............ hmmm?!!......... rather ridiculous are we not?......... perhaps the idea is that in recognizing the problem ~ we then scare the powers that be into action...........a single poem can change the world............. energy has a way of healing itself and continuing it's ballet of ever-evolving truth and spirituality!!........... who knows........I am but a singular poet living in the Metaphysical..........thanx for this brother poet!!.......... compelling piece............ALL STARS.......... peace........T xo

You guys...I'm left speechless. Totally. Thank you so much for the amazing response and commentary, it all means so much to me. This bit was actually inspired by Bob Dylan's track, "Masters of War." I tried to mimic his brazen, matter-of-fact simplicity in wording, which seems to hammer the message down so irrevocably. I don't know if I succeeded here, but it was an attempt, nonetheless. Once again, you guys have no idea of how much the support means to me. -blushes like a tomato-Â :)
