The Clandestine Cuckoo ❤️

At one O’Clock I heard the cuckoo, with its unique distinctive call
It sounded out one warble only, as it flew from my garden wall
And as I listened, I had expected more cuckoo calls, but there was not another at all
Coz the curiosity of the Cuckoo bird is such a mysterious oddball
You see, though I hunted for this fascinating feathered friend, it was well hidden out of sight
Somewhere in my shrubbery of bushes, self shading from the sunny daylight
And I knew that he was camouflaged amongst the colourful countryside, with his tiny, tail markings of white
Whilst I watched and I waited, for a fleeting glimpse of this sneaky bird in flight
But though I knew it had to be there, coz I had heard yon single cuckoo sound
This haunting harbinger sings just like my German clock, bearing the same name..that drops its pendulum to the ground
I have been told that Cuckoos mimic that shape and size of a Sparrow Hawk, to pillage and plunder any other birds nest that can be found
Well I do not care what they say about the clandestine Cuckoo, he is one of the nicest springtime winged-creatures ever flying around…
