The Cookery Teacher

The Cookery Teacher

The students had their ingredients ready,
to make a curry puff was pure destiny,
it needed minced meat, someone got it wrong,
instead, they managed to bring mincemeat along.

Everything was there: curry powder, potatoes,
garlic was ground, all assembled without a sound;
one day there was a Maine lobster, squealing
as it was immersed in hot water, without feeling.

A catalogue of herbs rent the classroom air,
coriander, turmeric, saffron and dill was there,
fennel, five spice, fenugreek, aesafoetida, parsley,
administered a bit too freely if you asked me.

There was always this incessant chopping with knife,
my food was coming, because the teacher is my wife!
