Poem -

THE DIG

With every back breaking movement I shove
Knowing the soil belongs to the country I love
The trenches I dig will keep the Russians away
For I won't desert my country it's here I'll stay

I rest a while and chat to like minded souls
We admire our handiwork and discuss the holes
Knowing they'll be our refuge and safety net
Almost certain it will be for a long time yet

I resume my digging as the sun peeks through
It's the only solution and it's something I must do
The soil I know will continue to break my back
No choice do I have my country is under attack
