The Dusty Star

I would tell you a story of a dusty little star,
Who fell fast to the earth from very afar.
It’s light was too clear, too strong, just too bright.
No one could gaze too long at its sight.
Because of its power, its wit and its charm,
People did fear it would do them some harm.
They dulled the stars light by giving it cracks,
Raining down sadness and gloom on its back.
By the end of this hatred, the star barely shone.
With barely enough strength to just carry on.
It stood to the side, scared to make any noise,
Gathering dust, completely blind to life’s joys.
When suddenly there was a feeling… or maybe two,
Like being cleaned up, stuck together with glue.
The cracks began to heal, and dissolve out of sight.
And it turned to see what had helped make things right.
Another star badly beaten, barely glowing at all,
Had seen the new stars plummeting fall.
It knew how the star felt, its terrors, its fears,
And could not bear to watch all its tears.
Fixing broken stars was this stars only dream.
To once again see their bright, glowing beam.
It reminded the old star that life was worth living,
That some people still care and are still giving.
It used the very last of its precious star dew,
To heal the stars cracks, and watch it shine anew.
The new star couldn’t bear to see this old stars pain.
And remained by its side through all of life’s strain.
After a time the both stars regained their glow,
They held each other up above every hard blow.
Things may get hard, and hurt for a while.
But after a time – there is a reason to smile.
You may be a fallen, a cracked, dusty star,
Lost of your light and covered with scars.
But know this my dear, beaten down heart.
You have a precious gift, it sets you apart.
Never let anyone doubt you of your worth,
Take your bright light, and steal your mirth.
You are amazing, you are pure, a sight to behold,
Your very existence is more precious than gold.
Shine bright amazing star, show others your light,
And remind other stars how to shine just as bright.

Hi Debs,
Thanks so much for your comment, I wrote this for my sister-in-law as she suffers from depression and she's since encouraged me to write more as it helps with my own.
Thank you for the welcome also, I'm really enjoying reading all the beautiful submissions put up by everyone.
All the best, Ellen.
Hi Ellen great write I too have suffered depression and know it's pain. Sometimes I feel this where my best creative writing comes. Keep writing x
I really enjoyed this poem!
awwwww:)
Thanks so much everyone for your beautiful comments. I have found that it's incredibly hard for me to express my battle with depression unless I'm given that chance to write down the words to do so.
All the very best to all of you and may you all shine bright :)
