The Edge of Seventeen

I'm at a funny age you see,
I feel neither young nor old,
I'm somewhere in the middle
Watching as my life unfolds.
I found release between pen and paper,
And though easy it may seem,
You'll find writing can be tricky
On the edge of seventeen.
I've been through tough times in my years,
There is much I've had to do.
But to say they've made me worldly wise
Would simply be untrue.
I write often about situations I've not been in,
And true though they may seem,
You'll find there's a lot of make believe
On the edge of seventeen.
So I take my paper and my pen
And the words begin to flow,
But of the wise words that I speak
My experience is often low.
Dont get me wrong I'm not a fool
There is much I've done and seen,
It's just I still have much to learn
On the edge of seventeen.
So come dear poetry siblings,
Please stay and read a few,
For to this whole poem writing malarky
I am fairly new.
I am very serious
I am chasing a long term dream,
There is much that I could learn from your advanced years
And maybe you could learn from my seventeen.
