The Frumpy Slipper

A fool I have become through the eyes of othersΒ
observing how I am easily replaced.Β
You can deny and believe it the truth,Β
but they can see what you do not.Β
Β
Like an old tattered slipper, I have been tossed aside;Β
with no concern of the hurt inflicted.Β
Preferred at one time, but now collecting dust;Β
you acquired another with cushion aplenty.Β
Β
Quiet footsteps getting louderΒ
"he is coming for me; he did not forget."Β
The blow of disappointment hitting hardΒ
as I feel the breeze of his passing hand.Β
Β
Years of adjustments for the accurate fitΒ
"did he not see how we conformed as one?"Β
Every bump and every curveΒ
I cushioned his walk with every step.Β
Β
Unwanted and worthless in your eyesΒ
I was carelessly thrown out into the garbage,Β
sinking deeper as the heaviness growsΒ
a sudden tug pulling me from the heap.Β
Β
Ragged and frayed upon the surfaceΒ
what is seen underneath is greatly appreciated.Β
What you threw away was obtained by another;Β
the warmth still delivered on a frosty night.
