The Glitch

The Glitch

There’s a glitch in the circuit
A short circuit in the wire.
One too many blows to the mind
From the tireless bludgeons of life,
When a thought gets stuck in the mire.
And that thought is always a question,
Of trust and of reality?
And in that moment— I take the fall—
Bathed in dubious uncertainty,
For no reason at all.
But in the frustrated haze,
And no matter how loose the screw,
Through the keyhole in dissonant days,
I always see you.

Sometimes, the city of my head
Will lose its power in the night,
And the lights will sputter out,
Without warning or foresight.
The little people up there will panic,
Scurrying around in infinite loops
Like headless chickens running frantic,
Or an ostrich,
with her eyes between her toes
It’s violent up there—
Emotion brings her best to war— it’s fear.
Logic plays her ace— love, mercy and grace…
And so they go on to wrack my soul.
And leave little blisters on my brain,
Every time they collide again
Like wasps in a glass bottle.
But, please believe
If theres an anchor in the blue,
If theres a grip in the erratic sea,
I always cling to you.

You could bathe me in your dreams,
Dress me in your tears,
Whisper in my ear,
Of your devotion for all these years
Like embers burning thin
Catch your lifetime in a jar
Shake them up and give ā€˜em out
As every day before.
But swooned by the dawn,
When sleep frolics away,
I’ll gaze at your silver silhouette,
Do you love me as yesterday?

I know, I know you do.
I know, I know you will,
I know, I know but still,
When still I ask again,
You have to understand,
Deep, deeply down I know—
I see, I really do,
The sacrifice, the labyrinths
You’ve picked your way through.
I know, I know but when,
I blow another fuse—
You must know that below,
The spinning, pointless screws,
I do, I do believe
I do, I do trust
I do, I do love
You and only you.
