Poem -

The green grassy hill

By Sophie downey

I was born next to a hill
A green grassy hill

When I was 1 I stared at the hill

Admired the hill

The green grassy hill

When I turned 2

I asked my mother to tell me stories

About the hill

The hill was my hero

The green grassy hill

Om my 5th birthday

My curiosity grew

I wondered what showed on the other side

The other side of the hill

The green grassy hill

Soon I was nine

My mind let to wonder

What could go far beyond

Would it be magic would it be money

Or something more special behind

Behind the hill

 the green grassy hill

In a blink of an eye I was twelve

I yawned at the sight of the hill

My friend told a story of the monsters behind

But I just let slip my mind

Nothing exciting behind that hill

That green grassy hill

My 16th year has begun

My phone glued to my face

Forgotten about the dumb hill

Or what could be behind

Behind the hill

The green grassy hill

I went off to college at 20

Graduated 24

I worked on for hours

My brain for my power

My hands were then sick and sore

Met the love of my life 26

Married the next year

Had a girl and a boy

My life had motioned to gear

When I had turned 42

My kids they had gone to their teens

My husband loved me no more

Left me with no means

At 60 I was so alone

Only 4 more years till retire

I didn't know what to do anymore

I knew I was too old to not fire

At 80 I looked at the swans

They looked so peaceful down there

Myself I was with nobody to help

Not even god would call to my prayer

At 99 i'd gotten a text

Come to the cottage you knew

The one where you grew

With the green grassy hill

My mother was gone

the house abandoned

Nobody left inside

I stared at the green grassy hill

What was on the other side

As I walked up the journey

I felt my freedom rise

As if something besides me was broken

As of all I was told were lies

Lies of the green grassy hill

As soon as I reached the peak

The beauty was beyond compare

As if why did I wait so long

To see sights as these so rare

On the green grassy hill

I lay on the green grass

And watched as the clouds moved slow

And finally peace within me rose

As my soul began to go

The green grass hill was special

It was there for me to climb

So don't wait forever to find an answer

When it was in front of you the entire time
