The Hand In The Dark

‘I’ve got your spirit’ spoke the hand in the dark,
‘I can crush your freedom like bugs under a boot.’
‘I know’, spoke I, ‘I’m adrift without a goal, like a pirate without his loot’.

‘I’ve got your dreams’ spoke the hand in the dark,
‘Your visions are mine to warp and to twist’
‘I know’, spoke I, ‘Only in my dreams had I the will to resist’

‘I’ve got your soul’ spoke the hand in the dark,
‘You feel the hollow place where your loves would once reside’
‘I know’, spoke I, ‘No longer have I fun, joy or pride’.

‘I’ve got your might’ spoke the hand in the dark,
‘Your power has drained and you weaken by the hour’
‘I know’, spoke I, ‘The taste of my own strength has grown very sour’

If you sit in fear of the hand in the dark,
And hide yourself away, every part and every bit,
Know there’s a light to every darkness and always time to find it.

You can rebuild your spirit, re-forge your dreams,
Restore your soul and regain your strength,
Call for help and others will heed, so take the time, whatever the length.

Now scream and shout at the hand in the dark,
If it tries to squeeze, stand up straight and go on the attack,
Your life is yours, and remember, those other things… you will get back.
