The hill

There, stands a hill,
Where once stood a Pa,
Vibrant, full of life,
Before the sound of baa.
The spirits of past souls,
The current elders weep,
At the mound where once stood men,
But now is grazed by sheep.
It was not the Imperilist power,
That claimed this place,
For the warriors here won their stand,
Against their foe,white face.
No, it was much later, the industry of the city,
Stole the people to feed the wheels,
Lost them their marae and discipline,
Lost to the sheep, their fields.
Their blood diluted now,
From the colour of the past,
They are of a new brotherhood,
Stand fast, the working class.

As a steel worker I so appreciate this.
Thanks for your comment.Applies to many.
BydOnz, this is quality, and as a plumber/small business owner/writer I can appreciate this as well... this one rattles around in my head, it's a 'different' sounding write, (a good kind of different) and I was unclear at the beginning where it would take me, but it shot off like a meteor near the end to an awesome crescendo, good stuff, looking forward to more of your fascinating work....cheers
Hi Christopher. Thanks for the great comment that both surprzed and delighted me. I like to pen 'sweet and sour '. I need to submit some sweet as well. Your 'song of immigrant' was interesting to me.
Good work cheers

Hi, BydOnz, this poem stands out more than any other poem in August, and by far, had the most views I'm scratching my head not knowing how it didn't win first prize, I'm confused, but congratulations on the honor, and for writing a special poem as well....cheers
