The Last Kiss
The last time that I kissed you, before I had to send you far away;
Was a “Terrible Tuesday” morning, two years ago today!
The darkness had abated, as the sun rose in the sky;
It’s golden rays engulfed you, sent by Angels from up high!

You were laying in your beddie, on the front seat of the van;
You were sleeping now forever, the heart ripped from this man!
I had laid by you the whole night, your body soaked by endless tears;
My precious Nico had just left me, the worst of all my fears!
Â
I wallowed and I wailed, for I had to say goodbye;
But I could not get the words out, for all I did was cry!
The morning before you had walked beside me, to go potty across the street;
How could this be happening, that The Lord now you would meet?
Â
My mind refused to accept it, but I had to let you go;
My soul was ripped to pieces, the worst pain it will ever know!
Then I bent down and gently kissed you, your body I embraced;
As I looked then for the last time, upon your lovely little face!

Ah Larry, my dear friend...
We both know the pain of having the constancy of a beloved dog's devotion wrenched from our side. And in some of your poetry, I see echoes of so many moments from those last few hours which still haunt me too.
My heart crosses oceans to go out to you...and melts at the warmth of this and all your other bitter-sweet tributes to little Nico.

Now you've gone and done it. Â Your beautiful words have brought cascading tears flowing down my cheeks. Â I never would have dreamed, two years ago, when I first went on Cosmo writing poems about the pain of Nico's loss, that I would have met such an unbelievable coterie of blessed friends that truly care. My Dear Debs,
Nico came to me in a dream two nights ago, and said "Daddy, it has been two years now and you need to start healing". Â "I am your Guardian Angel, and I will be with you till the ends of time." Â I have absorbed his words, and I feel your hugs.
