The Long Lost Statesmen

The ones we deride are the ones that divide,
but a nation divided will always be free.
Let the fools on the hill struggle along,
for the worst they could do is agree.

As for the mythical statesmen immune to the tides,
in red or in blue seas they once did reside,
and for every cheer and "horrah" they received,
a counter of pain raged in the aggrieved.

So perhaps it is we who have long been deceived...

The statesmen were never here!
