The Meaning of a Man

My gaze

Levels and deadens as if

I stare out through ancient eyes

At myself in that silver bathroom glass

Feel all those shreds of strength

Fall to the tiled earth before my serendipitous humility

Born of the great Nothing I in turn have borne

I put this blade to my cheek

Does the truth of manhood lie

In strength of flesh

(And I cut away the half-truth)

Does the flesh of manhood lie

Within the push and pull of urge and instinct

(And with it, releasing crimson)

I hold my azure sight in stasis

Frozen upon itself

No man could ever know if he really is what a man is meant to be

For what we are lies somewhere between what you say we are

And what we understand of your perceptions of us

I am a ceremony of broken reflections

A sage without the wisdom

A warrior without the might

A youth without the fire in his heart

I am but a man

And a man is all I am.

Hi  Jamie  A reflective piece on your perceptions
of what the" meaning of a man" is, who do you ask? when you say

"No man could ever know if he really is what a man is meant to be

For what we are lies somewhere between what you say we are"

I suspect if you ask a woman who loves you,  you are all she wants in a man

very much enjoyed this piece
 best wishes  Debs

He JAIME!!...... this is such a cool glimpse at what it means to consider our place in this unfathomably complicated universe........ there were a few lines in there where I thought you were shaving while you reflected on life in the mirror and I loved the phrase  "I am a ceremony of broken reflections.."....... by the way, I play acoustic guitar and I loved the accompanying song..... all around well conceived & delivered piece of work brother poet!!........ALL STARS...... I'm a fan!!.......... peace bro!!........T xo

Thank you all so much for the beautiful compliments, guys. My apologies for taking so long to respond to the support you each have shown me here, life has just been absolutely relentless, of late. Knowing that anything I write could have any kind of impression or inspiring effect on such masterful writers as each of you, means so much more than I can put across in words...peace and love to each and all of you. <3
