the place we were

in gardens of that place we were
as night danced in a cooling breeze
he sat upon a bench with me
and rolled a cigarrette with ease
he lit it up in shaking jerks
and blew out smoke in circled bands
the silence we did understand
untroubled, still and clutching hands
and no hearts could have said it
more, in silence in the place we
were
he knew he'd never be alone
he knew that love was always home
and though within that place we were
he fought with demon beasts of fear
we needed not the words to say
We loved him. He would be ok.
