THE POSTER

THE POSTER

See the world that's what the poster said
Were they messing with my head ?
No mention of killing the common foe
As I signed up and to France I must go

I was seventeen and it was  January 1915
The horrendous sights I saw were bloody and obscene
I look back to that fateful and unforgettable day
When I saw that poster that promised to take me away

I survived that war came back to tell my story
What price killing and what price glory ?

A beautifully written piece showing the loss of idealistic youth to the horrors of war! A lovely piece of work Kieran!
