THE POWER OF LOVE

The crops failed this year
The fields a sodden weeping
sore
Grey skies that melted out on
the horizon
Like snowflakes on a warm
stone floor
Like it was weeping all the
stars
It couldn't bear to look at
Anymore
The animals, unfed,
bellowing, stamped wild
Old reverend James roaring
Full of anger and chide
Twas god's curse he said for
rejecting good saints
Twas devils cavorting on lands
of sin's taint
The children cried hungry with
the illness of cramps
All the candles grew dim and
the fires burned damp
And the men of the village fell
down into drink
The shame of their tears
pissed away in ale's stinkΒ
I searched for him ...god
In the rain and in the sodden
fields
I cursed at the heavens
Cursed his failure to yield
I fell to my knees and begged
for some end
To the misery and hardship
To a path full of bends
He spoke to me, in due coarse
While I melted in rain
Bent low with no hope and the
whisky's numb pain
There, in the thick bush andΒ the
useless gorse
Which grew in my failures and
Thrived inΒ my shame
He came to me in her child's
hand
Spoke to me in her child's
voice
He said....
Papa I love you
As she helped me stand

Oh my goodness Jim..I'm so sorry to.hear you have troubles. I am touched that this helped comfort you in some way...that's a beautiful thought...thankyou...hugs ?
Marion!! I adore narrative poems, you know, the ones that tell a story. This story is not only a fabulous, fabulous one but it is told in such a beautifully, poetic way that it totally satisfied my hunger for a perfect poem. Oh how I LOVE this poem! You've penned something VERY special here. I truly, truly mean that! Awesome writing, Marion. Awesome ???????? x
Hi Tina, you know I was reading about the hardship millions of people all over the world will and are facing because of this virus...loss of jobs, businesses, cut incomes etc etc and It just struck me...hasn't that always been the way? All through the ages the greedy thrive and the rest suffer and die?? It has never been about lack of resources it has always been about the unequal distribution of wealth. And really, what is the only thing that binds us to the physical?? Our love for our children so I wanted to try and write that this has always been so. There really is no hope for this world. Thankyou for your amazing comment love ?
100%Β Β It is indeed the the greedy that thrive.
I love the way you told this story. And I thinkΒ him seeing god in his child was very apt. I love the way you write. This one was a fantastic poemΒ x
Aw thankyou love but I can't take credit for writing anything...mostly they appear fully formed in my head...lol...hugs ?
Listen here, Miss Marion, you take and accept ALL the credit you absolutely and definitely deserve! I know exactly what you mean about poems "popping" into you head seemingly already written (I get that too on occasions) ... But your head, your poem!Β There, you've been told ? x
Lol..ok....i will tell all the other people who live in my head exactly that...lol. Seriously though sometimes I believe that our brains are just like hardware... linked to all the software in the cosmos...
dont call the men in white suits ok ...they wouldn't understand...you will ??
Oh... Tis true, I understand ? x
Such a heartfelt write. well penned masterpiece
Aw Lisa...thankyou so much for your lovely comment, it's great to see you back also...think I told you that though...hugs ?
