The Raven

The Raven

You stand there alone and ponder.
Before you, you wonder.
Do I dare to walk that trail?
No one's in sight, what will it entail?
Looking up into the sky,
That blackest of black, catches my eye.
It was a raven, an omen of death.
Dare I dare? Deepest of breath.
It called to me to proceed!
Afraid to wander, but there was a need.
There was a power I could not exceed .

With every step I took, deeper and deeper.
There before me, stoodΒ the gate keeper.
There was such peace in my soul.
My concerns had been taking a toll.
My eyes gazed at his size.
What was I to surmise?
In front of him, I came to understand.
He was not a mere man.

I was brought there to simply see.
If I continued as I did, that would be me.
Memories flashed within my mind.
Of things forgotten,Β  I could not find.
The Raven rested upon his shoulder.
My worries and fears, needed closure.
One more cry from the Raven, I was sent away.
Thank you to my guardians, it was not my day.

I walked the path on my own.
I was not going to roam.
The silence within the trees,
I cried, an unfathomed release.
