The Rose in the Cupboard

Illustrated by Jonas Blommaert

The Rose in the Cupboard

Little Lady Red sits lonely in a chest
I ache for her at dusk
           and after each sunset

Oh how dark the shadows cast
On the rose
         and to my heart unasked

Luscious Lady Red waits idly in the dark
Until she’ll reach my lips
         and my thoughts shall disembark

Oh how the sweet aroma tangles
Around the glass
          and my throat to strangle

Long-standing Lady Red keeps me up at night
I wish for us to dance
         and bask in rich delight

Oh how eager she wants the cap unscrewed
Her essence flooding
        My mind renewed
