The Sands Of The Hourglass

Like the sands from within an hourglass, so pass each day that we live;
Some of us last for a very long time, but some, fate a short time will give!
There seems to be no formula, for long longevity;
Thin ones, fat ones, sinners too, centenarians, a rare anomaly!
But we are all very fortunate, to live so many years;
Because our dearest precious doggie friends, are not our โlong lifeโ peers!
For unlike us, they have been dealt, a lugubrious losing hand;
Why they leave us so prematurely, I will never understand!
How can the big jumbo elephants, sometimes get seventy-five?
When our little loves are very lucky, if fifteen they are alive!
Sometimes a giant sea turtle, they say is centuries old;
How come our precious canine mates, right down the road were sold?
So when they are just these little puppies, the sad sands begin to drain;
The hourglass moves ever faster, as their lives begin to wane!
So quickly do they have to leave us, we mourn and curse their fate;
Itโs so hard to say way too early, โGoodbye my precious dear soulmateโ!

Why they leave too early and leave us heartbroken still remains a mystery....saying good bye is the hardest no matter how short or long they live...It is well Sweet Larry
Lots of love.... Rose
Hi Sweet Rose,
Thank you so much Sweet Rose for understanding the tremendous pain that we all suffer, those of us to whom our doggies are our soulmates, when they are allotted such a short time on earth. ย Yet, hopefully, our goodbyes are only temporary and we will meet them again at the gates of Paradise.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
xox Larry
Hey LARRY!!..... your Love of dogs is something to be admired...... you spend a lot of your time expressing your Love for them most eloquently!!....... But I particularly like this piece because itย raises someย VERY perplexing questions....... longevity is something that entire research centers have dedicated their employees entire lifetimes too!!....... and you're asking one of the biggest head scratchers....... man's best friends seem to be dogs and horses and they certainly drew the short end of the stick.......I Love some of the lines within,ย " Sometimes a giant sea turtle, they say is centuries old;"....... now THAT really makes me wonder about the ocean!!?....... Love this..... and well delivered (as usual).......ALL STARS....... cool stuff bro!!....... high fives!!.......T xo.ย ?
My Dear Brother Poet Tony,
To me, doggies premature ends, is an enigma, like I said, about other species getting 75 to 200 years. You are right about them being man's greatest friends, but to many of us, they are our children, and their loss is devastating. ย Maybe we should have giant sea turtles for pets? ย Thank you for your understanding, support and lovely words.
Peace, Love and Rockets,
xox Larry
grand write Larry
Hi Lisa,
grand comment, Lisa
So sad Larry. I'm a cat lover, and I miss every single one I have ever loved. It does seem unfair. Hugs and Blessings, Rebecca
Dear Rebecca,
If only we could find a way to give those beloved cats, eighteen lives, instead of just nine. ย I can feel your pain too.
Peace and Love,
xox Larry
Hi ย Larry lovely write i always thought about the ageย
old myth that a doggie year is equal to seven human years
but your write got me thinking so i looked it up, it is`nt very accurate!ย
ย It does say that dogs age very fast in their first two years of life though
and smaller breeds mature quicker than most,
It Does`nt help usย knowing that we only have that short time withย
our darling pets does it so hard to lose a member of the family as we think of them:-(
Loved your questioning write my friend beautifully writtenย
love n hugs Debs xox
Hi Dear Debs,
I think we who feel like our beloved pets have been short changed in longevity, should formulate a petition, have it signed by millions of us who feel the same way, and present it to God for His consideration. ย Thank you for understanding.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
xox Larry
Hi sweetie,
This piece had me thinking about my two lovely boys Ellwood-George and Nero, Nero is now 9 and Ellwood-George is 6 so they are getting to be little old men now. I often wonder if the scientists are right when they say that a dog year is seven of ours, does that make Nico 91 or is my maths crap?! Well done for this piece, it is a great one as usual sweetie.
I love you both and kisses to Cody
Love G xx
Our Dear G,
I hope the hourglass runs two decades for Ellwood-George and Nero. ย As for that theory, I don't agree with it at all. ย My Nico had a lot of life left to live, for he looked more like a five year old doggie. ย Fate just played a cruel trick on us.
Love always,
Linda, Larry and Little Cody
