The Sea Monster

The Sea Monster

'Well, it happened fifteen years ago.
Fifteen, that's the number that died.
I was a good captain,
Kind, considerate and I never lied.

'People don't believe that though.
They think I'm mad.'
He looked down at his hands.
I almost thought he felt bad.

'It wasn't me,'
He simply said.
'It was the monster.
The one that's supposed to be dead.

'It was big and had razor teeth.
It only came during a storm
When it was freezing.'
He was lying, on that day it had been warm.

'People say I killed them all.
The crew, my wife and my son.
I'm telling you now I didn't.'
Shortly after our interview he was hung.

No one knows
Who the real monster was that night.
I believe his story.
As crazy as it was.
