The Secrets of Beauty

The Secrets of Beauty

Mirror mirror on the wall,
I am no longer the prettiest of them all

Don’t lie about the truth
I’m wiser than my youth
No beauty, though my mind
With time and age unwinds
The secrets of the untold
The beauty in the old

I remember when you mirror
Was young and new and clear
No dust to hide my face
The everlasting end

My heart was still sincere
With you, in the mirror
You lied to my reflection
You are no longer my obsession

Just like winter fades at the peak of the sun
The charms of bloom will soon be done
Don’t let denial unfold fear
When it’s buried under worn skin

The truth is my brown hair turns white
My body aches and my pretty fades
My mouth may rot and my breath may stink
But my words are pure and my knowledge is fresh

My wrinkled skin is the jacket of wisdom
My bulging veins are the roots of the tree of wonders
My watery eyes shed tears of pride
My mind cooperates with winter’s new colors

Dream, grow and learn but soon will come the day
When you will witness the words that I’m about to say
The secrets of beauty are not hidden behind this mask
I chose to wear my mask to show you the secrets of beauty
