The Song Of The Black Sheep

The Song Of The Black Sheep

Since then to share, in a family's welfare
You must learn to be content
For it is within reason, we share our family treason
And jointly in the state's punishment
So when you were born into knowing you were the thorn
Bringing your family such shame
Feeling death is your due, after all it was you
The black sheep to take all the blame
With our heads down, crying tears without sound
We boarded that east bound train
For we sinners are rare, knowing somewhere out there
The answers to universal truth are calling us home
Willing to pay any price, to find the God and the light
And the promise of finding the place we belong
From the harmony of heaven
This universal frame began
And we found our souls,
Much, much, more than dead
Cold and hot, moist and deep
We pray for their family's souls to keep
So, in God's good order, to their stations leap
For it is through God's belief
In we ~ the black sheep
That the diapason opens beautifully
Encompassing the voices
Of our entire
Family tree...

Hi Tony This totally resonates with me I was often called the black
sheep being so different than my siblings and other family
moving out at 18 to live on my own, then moving away from
my home town. Totally different to your reasons but, I did think of myself as
different as well, I never felt less loved though and I never loved less
Your poem reads so like I have felt myself
and is written beautifully and honest
Love it! Have to pin this one
Love n hugs Debs xo

Such a moving write on personal circumstances !

Wonderful complexity to the wording which so clearly outlines the situation and feelings coming from that.

Love this heartfelt offering laying emotion on to the page in dramatic fashion.

Hug.

I find these lines very touching, they made me cry.....

"when you were born into knowing you were the thorn
Bringing your family such shame
Feeling death is your due, after all it was you
The black sheep to take all the blame
With our heads down, crying tears without sound"

I believe you were willing to pay any price, even the price of being called "black sheep" because you wanted to find God and the light. You wanted answers to universal truth.

With the little time I've known you on Cosmo...you are a "white sheep" Tony.....you've touched so many lives and have been an inspiration to so many people.... And I know with the "Venomous Visitor" you've come to realised that what you seek is not far fetched.... Is not as far as you thought....

My Dear Brother Poet Tony,

Baa, Baa black sheep, have you any wool?  Yet, this black sheep is now world renowned.  For the lifelong pain he has suffered with his identity, has brought him closer to God.  He has learned that his roots are the sustenance to his family tree, and the wonderful wooliness of his prose has inspired a new generation of poetic soulmates.

Peace, Love and Rockets,

xox Larry
