The space in between us

We once belonged to each other
We were a single soul
A single thought
A single breath.
Now the space in between us
It is just an empty floor
A beautiful wooden desk
And a lawyer in front of us.
No feelings or emotions left
Only a thin line that still unites us
With our two names and an end date.
It is a painful line
That neither of us
Will want to cross it again.
