The Spare Bedroom

There is a place I’d like to go, in the night when I could not sleep;

You, Mommy, and Cody would be sawing z’s, so I’d sneak out without a peep!

To the spare bedroom very far away, and I’d turn on the T.V.;

Then find a movie that was very good, that I knew I’d like to see!

I’d lay down on the big old bed, and prop my head up high;

To watch until I felt fatigue, and yawns I’d start to sigh!

I’d turn it off and close my eyes, to start my pleasant dreams;

But no sooner would I have my first, that I thought I heard a scream!

I’d jump up to see it was sweeyheart you, making your lovely plea;

“Daddy, please bring me up there too, for with you I want to be”!

I’d lift you up and set you down; you’d find a spot right next to mine;

Then we would close our tired eyes again, till it was time to rise and shine!

That place feels so very empty now, for you’re no longer there;

You are sleeping up in Heaven’s home, instead of bedroom spare!

Some nights I think I hear your voice, and reach out to lift you up;

Then I realize it was all a dream, about my Angel soulmate pup!
