Poem -

THE UMBILICAL CORD

When they pulled your hair at school
We hurt

When they tripped you up in the playground
We fell down

At your graduation
We were so proud

When your boyfriend left you
We cried

When you married
We cried again

When you gave birth
We cried with joy

A little after your diagnoses
We died

And I shall follow you to heaven on the later train.
