The Untitled Project

The Untitled Project

When the tears started to fall,
No one was there
She sat in a room full of silence,

She wondered how to stop the pain,
And the knots growing in her chest
She looked around at the shadows

They looked warm and inviting
As did the numbness from the pain
She welcomed them with open arms

She was always told to stay away from them
But that night she had lost her strength
She saw no way out

She figured it would be better for everyone
For her to just slip into the shadows
She knew some would notice

She thought she was like the shadows
Unwanted and unnoticed
She too felt their pain

To help herself be left unnoticed
She took out an old friend
Her worn and tattered mask

She slid it on her face
She welcomed the warmth it brought
"This is where I belong", she thought

"No one can hurt me here"
"But it's also kind of lonely..."
"Maybe I should go back..."

As she went to remove the mask
She was shackled in place
Left immobile as she screamed

She soon lost her voice
And started to cry
No one will find her now

She started to give up hope
And was sure she would die like this
Everything was growing darker..

She drifted off to a dream
Where she hoped someone would save her
But she knew it was just a dream

"If only if only" she told herself
She was then awoken by a bright light
It was a figure standing in a door

He came and unshackled her
And brought her into his embrace
As he helped her to her feet

As they walked back towards the door
He told her "you'll forever be safe with me"
And with that she knew

She had found her savior
Her light, her guardian angel
Her best friend

She stretched further into the now shrinking doorway of light only to realize she could no longer reach him
He was gone, and so was her hope

She sat there in silence to realize there are three kinds of people in this world
Those who know you exist but wish they don't
Those who don't know you exist
And those who know you exist and love you

And she realized the first two tend to overshadow the third making her realize her insignificance in this world.
As the door swung shut she let a tear fall from her eye and so went her final glimmer of hope
She lay there almost lifeless but not dead enough
Waiting for the final numbness to set in

But it didn't come, she wondered where it was and what was going on beyond the door of hope

She stood up and walked towards the door, only this time she tried the knob

Surprisingly the door opened and she was greeted by the many people who loved her and all the things that make her happy

She knew she could get better, and she had already taken the first step she had the courage, to get up and pull herself out of the darkness

And with that she smiled a true smile for the first time in years and just felt the love in her heart and as she looked in the mirror she noticed the next big obstacle
Herself.

The figure looking back at her she almost didn't recognize
Marks from wearing the mask,
The tear stains still on her cheeks
But most of all, the pain and hopelessness that filled her eyes

She looked as if you were to touch her she'd fall apart
The tears threatening to spill with every look
"What have I done...?"She asked herself
"I can't believe what I've become"

But it wasn't just physical things that had changed
She was now much more timid and untrusting
She was skeptical of everything
And analyzed everyone's every move

She was more broken than when she started
And she realized that now
As she turned away from the mirror she realized
That she now was also more alone than when she first emerged from the dark

More tears filled her eyes
And threatened to spill down her cheeks
But she wouldn't let them,
She knew she still had support

she tried her best to cover the marks of the past
Foundation, concealer, mascara, anything
To others she looked better,
But she could still see it, the pain in her eyes

She was noticing more people saw it to
Not wanting to have to see it anymore they left as well
She watched them leave one by one
Till there was only one left, the one who had originally brought her there

He smiled at her and handed her a gift
It was a small box that fit into her palm
She carefully undid the bow
And opened the box

Inside she found a locket
On the locket it read
"I won't let you sink"
She brought him into her embrace in thanks

She was smiling so much
She knew he would stay
Through it all, or so she thought
Apparently she isn't the only one he's helping

So he too leaves because he has more to help
She runs after him saying she still needs him
But he says he can't do it anymore
She ripped off the locket and threw it at him

Finally letting the tears spill,
As the black streaked her face
She knew it, she was alone
And with that she closed her eyes and prayed that it all was a dream
