The Version You Want

My love,
you tell me to change,
to stop being what you despise,
that what you see in me
is like a stone tied to your wings—
a weight you never asked for.
You've asked for everything...
a new version of me,
a different face,
a softer shadow.
But tell me, my love...
will you still want me
when everything inside me is turned off?
When there's no light left in my gaze,
when my eyes, like a soldier’s,
stay fixed—empty, soulless?
Will you still smile
when laughter no longer lives in me,
and silence is all that answers you?
When your joy doesn't awaken mine
but only meets the cold?
Because what I am… will be erased.
And something new will take its place.
I don’t know if it’ll be better or worse—
just different.
I’ll look in the mirror
and maybe won’t recognize myself.
Maybe I’ll see a stranger
with your name carved into his chest.
I just hope, my love,
that this new thing wearing my skin
pleases you,
holds you,
keeps you happy.
Because you see…
I won’t be the same anymore.
And all I pray for
is that you can love
the one who’ll give you what you asked for,
even if he’s no longer me.
With what little remains of me,
your shadow that still loves you.
